MODEL BROWN BESS MUSKET WITH BAYONET. Cal. 70. NSN. Bbl. 41 1/4", has crossed dagger & "GR" crowned proofs at breech end. Lock w/ slightly arched round bodied plate engraved "GR" w/ crown in front of cock & "TOWER" behind. Lock also features bridled frizzen & feather spring w/ bulbous flame finial. Furniture is brass w/ heavy trigger guard w/ husk finial & flat sideplate. Buttplate & crest plate marked for 17th Regiment. Buttplate also w/ 1st Batallion No. 64. Crest plate w/ additional "C 56". the 17th Regiment was posted to Boston in 1776 & saw action in the Battle of Long Island, White Plains, Fort Washington, Princeton, Brandywine, Germantown & Stony Point. They also saw action at the battle of Guilford Courthouse & the siege of Yorktown. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: triangular bayonet w/ 17" blade that fits musket quite well. Bayonet marked w/ crowned proofs, "EX", ".J" & "JOHN ROE". Rack number "156" is on socket. CONDITION: good as nicely restored. Bbl. has well aged reconversion to flint. Lock has attractive reconversion using old parts. Stock has been spliced from palm swell forward & has had a considerable amount of wood added between top of lock & bbl. tang.
