Late 20th century. Abelam people, Papua New Guinea. Very nice and expertly sculpted ceremonial yam mask comprised of wood, fiber and cane. Natural earth pigment accent the mask throughout in black, yellow and burnt orange. Classic avian form with a wide pointed beak. Size 23 1/8" L. Condition: Minor losses to pigment else in well preserved overall condition.. Provenance: Collected prior to 2008, ex-Lacy Gallery (Vanna & Lee Lacy collection), Los Angeles CA. Lacy Gallery was founded upon six decades of collecting ethnographic and fine art. Lee Lacy was a distinguished Hollywood producer of iconic TV series and commercials.

All lots are sold as is with no representation of age, condition or description. By participating in this auction bidders agree that all lots are sold as is without any warrants or representations with respect to the lots. The auctioneer retains the right to reject any bid and to withdraw or pass any lot at his or her absolute discretion. When identical absentee bids are submitted the auctioneer will accept the first bid presented at his or her discretion. The highest bidder as determined by the auction house shall be responsible to pay for the hammer, buyer's premium and any applicable sales tax. Ownership of lots shall not be transitioned to the respective winning bidder until the auction house is satisfied with all funds being transferred and cleared to the auction house's account. All sales are final. Buyers have 10 days to arrange for removal of lots from the auction houses facility. After 10 days the auction house reserves the right to charge a $5 storage fee for each additional day until the lots have been removed. The auction house reserves the right to relist and sell any lots which have accrued a storage fee larger than the hammer plus buyer's premium total for a given lot. Shipping and safe delivery of the lots is the buyer's responsibility. The auction house reserves the right to update or remove any lot listed at the auction house's discretion.
