Harpers Ferry Model 1816 Single Shot Flintlock Infantry Musket Altered to Percussion, NVSN, .69 smoothbore cal., 42'' round barrel with integral bayonet lug on top behind muzzle; part-beveled lockplate with pointed rear marked ''(spread-wing eagle)/US'' ahead of hammer, and ''Harpers/Ferry/1834'' behind in three lines vertically, and retains its original brass flintlock pan; all iron furniture including large military-style hammer, serpentine sideplate, trigger, triggerguard with long rear tang and front sling swivel, three spring retained barrel bands (middle with sling swivel, double-strap upper band with integral blade front sight), buttplate marked ''U.S.'' ahead of top tang screw, and button-tip ramrod; oil-finished one-piece walnut fullstock having the very low comb typical of this model. Mfg'd 1816-40; originally with bright, browned, or a combination of both finishes. Condition is good showing an overall deep brown color with scattered moderate-to-deep pitting, especially heavy at breech-nipple area; markings are clear with the exception of those at breech area of barrel. Stock is solid with a longitudinal grain crack emanating from buttplate on right side and another at lower left, and some expected light dings from age and use. The gun is complete, original (with the exception of the alteration to percussion) and in an untouched ''attic'' state. Action functions; bore is dark. Est.: $400-$600. (Antique)
