Harpers Ferry Model 1841 'Mississippi Rifle'
.54 ca. NVSN. Early U.S. military muzzle loading percussion rifle chambered for .54 caliber ammunition, manufactured circa 1847. The model 1841 received it's nicknamed from the Mississippi Regiment who had great success with the rifle during the Mexican War. Features a browned 33" barrel, front sight ground down, and missing rear sight. smooth trigger, knurled hammer spur, steel ram rod with brass trumpet shaped tip, sling swivels, brass furniture, and smooth walnut straight grip shoulder stock with brass buttplate & patch box. The lock is marked [Eagle/Crossed Arrows]/"U.S." & "HARPERS/FERRY/1847", the stock has no visible cartouches, and the buttplate is stamped with a small "OC" inspectors mark.. Small inspector marks have also been observed such as a "TG" on the front barrel band. The iron surfaces display a mottled aged grey/brown patina and the brass furniture displays a lovely aged patina. Action is sound, the bore appears dark/dirty and the wood stock has numerous scratches/dings. There is a small hole drilled in the upper left stock behind the band. The wood on the right side of the tang under the hammer has been repaired with a piece of copper nailed in it. this looks period done. The patch box contains a extra nipple, worm, and bullet screw that appear to be original. antique firearm Condition is near NRA Fine. .
