Hibbard Spencer and Bartlett "Ruso" Single Shot Shotgun, #NVSN, 12 ga., 30" blued barrel with 2-3/4" chamber, Full choke, and brass bead front sight; color case hardened receiver with exposed hammer. Round knob pistol grip walnut stock and forend with White Line recoil pad; LOP is 14-1/4". Mfg'd circa 1905-1935. Overall condition is good. Blued surfaces retain approx. 50%-60% of the factory finish, while case colors have toned to brown, with scattered marks from age and use. Left side of the receiver is stamped "H.S.B. & Co", with light engraving of a rooster. Wood has been lightly sanded and shows scattered impressions and scratches; the left side of the buttstock has an approx. 3-1/2" x 1/2" area that has been overly sanded, most likely done when the recoil pad was fitted. Action locks up tight; bore is bright with frosting just ahead to the chamber. Hibbard, Spencer, Bartlett & Co. was a prominent Chicago hardware and sporting goods firm (later the creator of True Value hardware). The "Ruso" is a store brand most likely made by Crescent Firearms or J. Stevens. Est.: $100-$150. (C&R)
