Higgins Boat Trophy, of copper construction, with plaque on left side that reads, ''Presented by Andrew Jackson Higgins, Designer of the L.C.V.P., in cooperation with the United States Treasury's War Finance Program, to commemorate the Newspaper Boys' War Savings Stamp sales campaign August through October 1945, which sponsored a fleet of landing craft for the invasion of Japan.'' The L.C.V.P. (landing craft, vehicle, personnel) or Higgins boat was a landing craft used extensively in amphibious landings in WWII. Condition is near excellent with only minor scratches, a couple of minor chips, loss of finish in one area at bottom of boat and high edges of base, and missing one spoke to ship's wheel, otherwise appears complete. Trophy measures approx. 1.5'' in length and 6'' in height. Est.: $600-$800.
