Highly Decorated Jezail Flintlock Rifle with East India Company Lockplate, #NVSN, approx. .62 cal., 42" smoothbore barrel decorated with floral motifs, brass barrel bands, hammered copper wrist plates, and a riveted copper strip on the comb of the buttstock. No finish. Hardwood stock is highly decorated with bone inserts, depicting flowers and geometric designs, with attached wooden buttplate. Blade front sight and fixed rear sight with aperture. Includes an iron rammer mounted under the barrel. Lockplate is marked "1799/East India Company Quartered Heart/Mortimer" as made by the British gunsmith H.W. Mortimer. Condition overall is good, showing expected age and wear. Metal parts with rust patina and darkening. Tang screw is missing. Wood with repairs to the left side at the breech, scattered age cracks, and a few spots of wood loss along the barrel. Hammer holds on full and half-cock; action operates smoothly. There is an old flint in the jaws wrapped in leather. Est.: $500-$800. (Antique)
