Holland & Holland ''Royal Hammerless Ejector'' Side-by-Side Sidelock Shotgun, #22352, 12 ga., 2-3/4'' chs., 30'' blue finish barrels with 3/8''smooth concave rib and front silver bead, .730'' bores without choke constrictions, standard London nitro proofs on barrel flats for 1-1/8 oz. shot, barrel wall thickness is approx .028'', with double triggers, ejectors and a manual sliding top tang safety. Case-hardened action has full coverage banded foliate scroll and geometric border engraving executed in a traditional Holland & Holland Royal pattern; locks have gold-line cocking indicators and the triggerguard has a right hand rolled edge. Records indicate a build date of 1899-1900. The straight-hand stock and Anson release forend are semi-deluxe marble-figured English walnut having a polished finish and 24 LPI bordered checkering with drop points and a vacant silver oval on the toe line. Length of pull is 14-1/2''over a 1/4'' ribbed horn buttplate, drop at comb is 1-5/8'', drop at heel is 2-1/2'', cast off is 1/4''; weight is 6-1/2 lbs. Fitted in a period oak and leather, brass reinforced luggage case with maker's label attached, along with an assortment of unused maintenance and cleaning accessories including a set of three ebony handle turnscrews, an ebony two-piece cleaning rod with attachments, a stuck case remover, two silver-plated oil bottles and silver-plated striker bottle. Mechanical condition is fine showing light wear mostly from handling and assembly. Right lock screw head is slightly deformed from removal. Action is tight, triggers are crisp, ejectors are strong and bores are bright; chambers have been lengthened from 2-1/2'' without re-proofs, chokes have been polished out leaving .735'' bores near the muzzles, The lightly refreshed barrel blue is better than 99% with slight oxidation at the muzzles. Overall case colors have thinned to 40% and are drifting to silver-gray. Refinished stock and forend have a few small areas of lightly flattened checkering, mostly along the wrist; there are two 1-1/2'' repaired splits to the wood along the left and right sides of the forend tip. Rear portion of top rib has lifted from the barrels and has been re-laid with a liquid weld; buttplate has light chipping. Luggage case leather exterior is scuffed and peeling along the edges exposing the wood, no securing straps are present; latch button is missing its escutcheon and key, handle assembly remains intact and is firmly attached; case interior has a recent green felt relining of the partitions and compartments. Est.: $12,000-$15,000. (C&R)
