Horstmann 1850 Infantry Officer's Sword
Civil War era, marked "W.H. Horstmann & sons, Philadelphia", with etched floral scrolls on blade, brass guard & fittings. Approx 39.5" overall length, 33.5" blade, fair condition. Blade has Military motifs, including the American Eagle, "U.S." and "E Pluribus Unum", flat of blade marked "Iron Proof". Blade shows light scattered patina near hilt, increasing to mix of silver & brown colors near tip. Wire wrap, and fish skin on handle are intact. Note* This sword comes in what appears to be a M1859 USMC NCO scabbard. Leather with two brass mountings, with frog stud. Drag has the "Sea Serpent", which I believe is WKC manufacture due to the fine scales on the Serpent. Leather is scuffed, and there is some separation above the drag, but it is complete, extremely rare to find.
