IDENTIFIED GROUPING BELONGING TO WWI U.S. NAVAL

AVIATION SEAMAN 1ST CLASS HERBERT RAY SPENCER. A scarce & desirable grouping of items belonging to Seaman 1st Class Herbert Ray Spencer who was attached to a Naval Aviation Unit during WWI. This fine group includes:
1) M1917 Brodie helmet w/ a sand finish & painted insignia on the front featuring a blue winged central red & white circle & a "U" painted on the top of the helmet. The inside rim is stenciled, "HR SPENCER". Full liner & brown leather chinstrap.
2) A sm. white canvas seabag measuring approx. 20" x 16". Bag has a similarly painted winged insignia as the helmet w/ "FRANCE" underneath. The bag further has a fine rendition of a red, white & blue American flag on pole & a blue anchor. Bag has a rope closure on the top w/ hand sewn cotton grommets.
3) A copy of Spencer's discharge from the Naval Reserve Force dated 1921.
4) 6 Period name cards hand lettered, "H.R. Spencer".
5) A tin Aero Squadron sign measuring approx. 9 1/2" x 6 3/4", several cotton ties & a partial feed strip for a Hotchkiss machine gun. CONDITION: helmet & seabag show light wear. Seabag has discolored to a tan color. Other items show light to moderate wear. (02-16384/BF). $400-600.
