IMMAN MEFFERT TREFF ACTION DRILLING.

Cal. 16 Ga. 2 3/4" / 9.3x72 R. S# 37826. The Treff action was often used by Meffert & was a fairly unique design w/ strikers hung off of the top tang. They were powered by coil springs. This example has 26 7/8" bbls. w/ popup U-notch rear & gold bead front sights in full length matted rib. Milled out portion of rib at center is engraved “Imman Meffert, Suhl”. Steel logos are stamped at breech ends. Bbl. flats are stamped w/ Imperial German black powder proofs for 16 Ga. & 9.3 rifle cartridge along w/ 1969 Ulm Nitro reproofs for 2 3/4" chambers. Rnd. bodied underlever Treff action features rifle selector on top tang which also has pin type cocking indicators. Drilling is also fitted w/ Greener type side safety & dbl. triggers (front set). Action is engraved w/ near full coverage scrolling acanthus in nicely shaded background which surrounds game scenes w/ a roebuck & doe on left side & a recumbant stag on right. Top tang is silver inlaid “TREFF” over “D.R.G.M.”. Trigger guard is steel. Slightly marbled European walnut capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14 1/8" over ribbed horn buttplate. Stock features right hand cheekpiece, point pattern grip checkering, starburst horn gripcap & sling loop. Matching splinter forend has Deeley release. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: R .667", L .667". Restriction: R .005" (IC), L .030" (FULL). Min. Wall Thickness: R .030". L .040". STOCK: DAH: 2 3/4". DAC: 1 3/8". LOP: 14 1/8". CAST: approx. 1/2" off. WEIGHT: 7 lb. 1 oz. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: black plastic case. CONDITION: good as partially refinished. Bbls. retain nearly all of a shiny reblack, engraving somewhat softened. Action cleaned to silver gray. What is most likely an early replacement buttstock retains most of an oil refinish w/ some minor marks. Checkering w/ missing diamonds has slight wear. Forend w/ original wood has old refinish. Checkering shows extreme wear & is almost perished on bottom. Shotgun bores are shiny but show some scattered pitting & frosting. Rifle bore has some shine but shows considerable light pitting at breech end. Action is slightly loose. Left bbl. will not cock. (22-5011/MGM). CURIO. $800-1,200.
