IMPERIAL GERMAN REGIMENTAL STEIN FOR THE 11TH
PIONIER BATALLION. Stein measures 11 3/4" in height. The body of the stein reads “Andenk.am Dienstz. b.d.2. Comp. Kurhess. Pionier Batt. No= 11.Hann. Munden 1908 1910” & “Rehv. Schlitt.” around the base. The top reads “Wir dienten treu dem Vaterland, an Werra , Fulda U.Weserstrand”. The central portion includes vivid polychromatic scenes of pioniers in action & a central motif of an anchor with shovel, pick, pike, oar & red shoulder strap with the number 11. The base has a lithophane of a pionier saying farewell to his wife. The elaborate pewter lid is topped with a full standing pionier holding a shovel & anchor. CONDITION: light wear overall. The lid is a bit bent & needs adjustment. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox. (02-18607/BF). $250-400.
