IMPERIAL GERMAN REGIMENTAL STEIN FOR THE 1st
CAVALRY REGIMENT. Stein measures 11 1/4" in height. The body of the stein reads “Bur Erinnerung a. m. Dienstzeit. b. d. 4. Esk.1.bayr. Chev. Rgt. Kaiser Nikol. II. v. Russl. Nurnberg 1903-06” around the base. The top reads “Stolz zu Ross die Cavallerie auf dem Posten spat und fruh.” The central portion includes vivid polychromatic scenes of a cavalry charge, a single cavalryman on horseback with a lance & the same cavalryman saying goodbye to his wife. The base has a lithophane showing the bust of a soldier with a goatee. The elaborate pewter lid has a finial depicting a cavalryman on a rearing horse. CONDITION: light wear overall with minor fading to the inscription around the base. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox. (02-18643/BF). $300-450.
