IMPERIAL GERMAN REGIMENTAL STEIN FOR THE 4th GUARD
INFANTRY REGIMENT. Stein measures 12" in height. The body of the stein reads “4. Comp. Leib. Garde Inftr. Regt. (1. Grolsh. Hess.) No= 115 Darmstadt 1910-12” around the base. The top reads “Es lebe hoch das Regiment das sich mit Stolz Leib-Garde nennt.” & “Gardist Daut”. The central portion includes vivid polychromatic scenes of an infantry unit in action with 2 standing soldiers & 2 portraits. The base has a lithophane of a soldier saying goodbye to his wife. The elaborate pewter lid depicts a seated soldier holding his canteen in the air. CONDITION: light wear overall however, the names on either side of the handle listing the members of the unit are quite faded. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox.
