IMPERIAL GERMAN REGIMENTAL STEIN FOR THE 88th
INFANTRY REGIMENT. Stein measures 11 1/4" in height. The body of the stein reads “Zum Andenken v. m. Bruder Wilh. Weber C. d. 3. Cp. 2. Nassaw. Inf. Rgt. No=88. in Mainz. 1904-1906.” around the base. The top reads “Bruder stosst die Glaser an, hoch lebe der Reservemann.” The central portion includes vivid polychromatic scenes of an infantry regiment marching in review. The base has a lithophane of a soldier saying goodbye to his wife. The elaborate pewter lid depicts 2 artillery soldiers standing in back of a cannon. CONDITION: light wear overall. There is a bit of oxidation on the cannon. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox. (02-18587/BF). $300-450.
