IMPERIAL GERMAN REGIMENTAL STEIN FROM THE 1st
COMPANY OF A BAVARIAN PIONEER BATALLION. Stein measures 12 1/8" in height. The body of the stein reads "Gefreiter I. Strobl." around the base. The top reads "Pionier-Bataill. 1 Comp. Ingolstadt 1906/1908." The upper central portion reads "Pioniere, strammes Corps, Tun sich allen andern vor!" The central portion depicts several vivid polychromatic scenes including a railroad scene, a pub scene, and two scenes depicting pontoon bridge construction. The base has a lithophane that shows a soldier drinking and looking at his wife. Elaborate pewter domed lid is topped with a pioneer holding a shovel & an anchor. CONDITION: light wear overall. The finial on the lid is slightly bent. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox. (02-18585/BF). $350-550.
