IMPERIAL GERMAN REGIMENTAL STEIN FROM THE 8TH
GRENADIER REGIMENT. Stein measures 11 3/4" in height. The body of the stein reads “8.Comp. Gren.Regt.Konig Karl 5.Wurtt.No= 123. Wm. 1911 13” around the base. The top reads “Wir dienten an der Donaustrand zum Schutze fur das Vaterland!” & “Hornist Heindel.” The central portion includes vivid polychromatic scenes of a soldier’s life along with 2 portraits. The base has a lithophane of a soldier saying farewell to his wife. The elaborate pewter lid is topped with 2 full standing Imperial German soldiers shaking hands. CONDITION: light wear overall. The finial on the lid a bit bent. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox. (02-18579/BF). $300-500.
