BY BLYTH. Cal. 77. NSN. Bbl. 77". Tapered rnd. bbl. has remnants of British proofs at breach end. Arched “Brown Bess” type lock w/ rounded lockplate fitted w/ rnd. bodied serpentine cock, integral rounded pan, bridled friction frizzen & feather spring w/ pineapple finial. Lockplate, in front of cock, engraved "BLYTH". Walnut full length stock pinned to bbl. & brass mounted. Heavy cast buttplate engraved w/ lg. scroll on 4" steeple shaped top tang. Nicely shaped lg. sideplate is also scroll engraved. Trigger guard w/ raised flutes either side of bow has nicely engraved acorn finial. Long iron ramrod w/ trumpet head is held by 3 dbl. beaded brass pipes & matching thimble. CONDITION: good to very good. Bbl. w/ old cleaning is gray/brown w/ considerable deep pitting. Lock is darker brown to black, also pitted. Stock is sound & retains most of an old oil finish & has some wear on sharp edges. There is some checking & considerable cracking at butt due to shrinkage & grain structure. Brass has mellow mustard to brown patina. Mechanically good. Henry Blyth worked in London between 1750-1780. An attractive old gun, possibly a record breaker for length of bbl. PROVENANCE: The Estate Collection of Gary Parietti. (01-19070/MGM). ANTIQUE. $3,000-4,000.
