Realizing that there exists a problem with the proliferation of Aoudads in parts of Texas, the Aoudad Roundup could assist in the control of the Aoudad population. This roundup would also put a value of the aoudad ewes for a rancher and benefits could be several fold: assist in the control of the aoudad population and at the same time compensate the rancher thus creating a potential revenue source and the management of aoudads, create a value for the aoudad ewes by promoting the consumption of the meat. Aoudad meat has long been viewed and not table-worthy, however, ewe meat made into burger, chili, sausage, etc., the meat is comparable to other wild game…thus promoting the “Wildlife Harvest Initiative”. Aoudad ewe meat will be served at several meals during the roundup.
This inaugural Roundup will consist of 10 hunters each paying an entry fee to participate. THIS AUCTION IS FOR "ONE" SPOT OF THE 10 HUNTERS. A portion of the entry fee would go in to a pot for the largest animal by horn length. Included in the entry fee would be the costs of room, board, guiding and drinks. Approximately a third of the total entry fees will be placed in a pot. Each participant will be allowed to shoot two female aoudads. Score will be kept on the females shot by length of horn. Longest horns wins the pot. To make things interesting, after a hunter shoots his 2 animals, if he wants, he can "better his score " by shooting another female for a added fee of $500, half of which would go in the pot and the other half to the host ranch. Participants would pay the entry fee to Iowa FNAWS (Foundation for North American Wild Sheep), so that it becomes tax-deductible event since we are utilizing the proceeds for wildlife management. The hunter can also shoot a trophy aoudad while hunting, at the ranch's trophy price. In addition to harvesting aoudad ewes, the rancher will allow each participant to take 2 javalinas, as well as allow for thermal night hunting for predators at no extra charge! This initial Aoudad Roundup is scheduled for early Spring 2027 at a ranch in West Texas, near Ft Davis. Contact Craig Nakamoto (402)650-1383, nakamoto01@sbcglobal.net
