INCISED CARVED RIFLE ATTRIBUTED TO JOHN DREISBACH.

Cal. 45 rifled bore. NSN. Bbl. 39". Overall length 55". Has a 4 piece patchbox w/ 7 piercings, 15 silver inlays, 5" brass saddle plate, 4 1/2" brass toeplate, brass comb inlay & an English Warranted lock converted from flint. Stock is faintly incised carved. John Dreisbach worked in Mifflinburg, PA (1814-1861). He was the son of John Dreisbach Sr. CONDITION: patchbox door may be a replacement. Lock has been flint & does not appear to be the correct lock for this rifle. Bbl. & stock have been shortened from the rear, about 3 1/2". Incised carving does not appear to be the quality you would expect w/ a John Dreisbach rifle. PROVENANCE: Collection of Dr. John Persing. (01-19545/RG). ANTIQUE. $1,200-1,800.
