CUTAWAY, S# 23. Cal. 7.63mm. S# 23. Extraordinarily rare System Mauser cutaway w/ fixed front & rear sights having 5.5" bbl. & thin backstrap without stock slot. Hand engraved "SYSTEM MAUSER" on top of chamber. Crown/"C"/"U" on left side of bbl extension. Long extractor, separately retained firing pin, solid rails & rounded front strap as usual for Mauser's earliest production pistols. Conehammer w/ 1st variation safety. 2 Lug locking system. Checkered walnut grips. Lanyard ring present. Disassembly shows all matching numbers including firing pin, follower, locking block & each of the solid grip panels. CONDITION: VG w/ considerable fading & handling wear as customarily found for these earliest samples that were widely demonstrated as a sales promotion to various parties. An identical pistol, both in terms of the cutaway pattern, dual locking lug system, and overall condition, as S# 25 pictured in "THE BROOMHANDLE PISTOL" by Erickson & Pate on page 23.
