126TH NY, WOUNDED AT GETTYSBURG. Cal. 31. S# 1729. Rarely seen “LONDON PISTOL COMPANY” marked 5” bbl., 12-stop Manhattan Arms Co. revolver, engraved in script probably when sold “L. P. Brizee” on butt strap. There is only one soldier w/ that name: 19 year old Levi P. Brizee joined 126th New York at Penn Yan, Yates County August 22, 1862. The regiment left NY on Aug. 26, 1862, w/ little training & almost immediately saw in its first fighting during the siege of Harper's Ferry, where 126th received the brunt of the enemy's attack & suffered a large share of the casualties at Maryland & Bolivar heights during siege of Harper’s Ferry finally surrendered w/ most of the unit September 15, 126th lost 16 killed & 42 wounded during their initiation to the war. They were soon paroled & back into the Army of Potomac where they saw action distinguished action. At Gettysburg 126th captured 5 stands of colors & Levi was wounded, sent to hospital in Philadelphia where this pistol was recently found. Impeccably inscribed Civil war revolvers such as this would make great addition to any collection. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: sm. file of research notes accompanies. CONDITION: good overall, complete, matching, & original, gray iron patina w/ pitting, crisp markings, large chip in right grip. Mechanically functionable, sharp rifled bore. (01-21382/JS).
