INTERESTING BRITISH FLINTLOCK FOWLER WITH HENRY

NOCK BARREL & "ALLEN" MARKED LOCK. Cal. 70. NSN. Bbl. 34" watered iron w/ under rib transitions from oct. at breech through 16 sides to rnd. w/ wedding band. Patent breech has oval gold poincon marked "H Nock" on top w/ gold band at rear. Bottom of breech stamped "HN PATENT" & w/ London gunmaker's proof. Gun has interesting extended touch hole. Lock, w/ flat plate & rounded tail, is fitted w/ French cock & has waterproof pan, bridled frizzen & roller on feather spring w/ bulbous finial. Lock engraved w/ feather borders & some scroll "ALLEN" is under pan. Half stock w/ silver cap & bbl. bolt escutcheons is otherwise iron mounted. Trigger guard has acorn finial which is stylistically early for the bbl. & lock. Buttplate has long top spur. Squared checkering is at grip. Old wooden ramrod w/ horn tip mts. through 2 plain pipes & beaded thimble. CONDITION: bbl. w/ considerable patina over traces of original finish. Lock cleaned to pewter gray, stock w/ old oil refinish has considerable wear. Iron mts. quite dark. Front ramrod pipe is detached. Bore is fair to good w/ some light pitting.
