INTERESTING LONDON MADE FLINTLOCK PISTOL/CARBINE.

Cal. 62 multi groove rifling. NSN. This really cool pistol has unfortunately suffered the ravages of time and makers name is illegible both on barrel and lock. The 12" octagon rifled barrel with patent breech and platinum touch hole is fitted with four nested leaf rear sight and front bead on nicely filed ramp. Barrel is fitted with under rib with sling loop. Breech iron is also fitted with sights. Good quality flintlock with flat plate features back sliding safety, reinforced cock, waterproof pan, bridled frizzen and roller feather spring with spear finial. Trigger is set. Stock with small checkered flared grip has silver forend tip. Trigger plate has pineapple finial. Top of grip is raised and has mount for special windage and elevation adjustable lollipop type rear sight. Rear of grip has shaped slot to accept detachable buttstock with bayonet type mount and trigger latch. Stock is of crotch figured European walnut and has steel buttplate, shadow line right hand cheekpiece and sling loop. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: pistol is housed in an old walnut veneered case with two intricate marquetry bands across top and sides. Interior is lined in scarlet velvet. Pistol fits bottom compartment quite well. Accessories include copper bodied powder ball and patch flask, rosewood and brass loading rod, nutcracker ball mould, small pewter oil bottle and turned walnut flint bottle. CONDITION: fair. Iron parts show extreme pitting overall with cleaned silver highlights. Wood retains most of what appears to be original finish. Checkering considerably worn. Bore is good with strong rifling. Lock is operable. Safety inoperable. Trigger does set. Case is fair to good with old finish on exterior but missing many pieces of inlay. Interior cloth shows fading, stains and rubs, but not commensurate with the condition of this pistol. (01-23018/MGM). ANTIQUE. $1,200-2,000.
