INTERESTING SHORT LAND PATTERN MUSKET BY KETLAND

& CO. WITH REGIMENTAL MARKS & BAYONET. Cal. 69. NSN. Bbl. 42", has very unusual early usage of a hooked breech, which later became the standard for muzzle loading sporting guns. Rear portion of bbl. is stamped w/ British proofs. Lock has slightly arched rounded plate engraved "KETLAND & CO" in front of serpentine cock. Lock also features integral pan, bridled frizzen & feather spring w/ bulbous finial. Stock is of short land pattern w/ raised platform around bbl. tang, deeply fluted comb & palm swell. Stock extends to w/in 4 1/4" of muzzle & attaches to bbl. w/ captive side bolts. Left side of comb is deeply stamped "Y + C" (York County?) "176". Typical brass furniture has intermediate ramrod pipes w/ flared tips, serpentine flat sideplate & stepped buttplate tang engraved "H14". UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: early hand forged triangular bayonet w/ 17" blade which is unmarked in condition matching musket. CONDITION: iron parts cleaned to silver & gray over some light pitting. Lock is original flint configuration. Bbl. possibly w/ touch hole bushed. Stock w/ considerable old possible refinish has hand worn patina at grip & lg. number of knocks & dings. There are repairs to wood at rear side bolt. Furniture w/ heavy cleaning is beginning to tone. Central side bolt is missing, rear bolt is replacement. Sling loops are present & relatively new ramrod has trumpet head. Pitted bore. PROVENANCE: The Estate Collection of Gary Parietti. (01-19744/MGM). ANTIQUE. $2,000-4,000.
