Important Sharps New Model 1859 percussion rifle, .52 caliber, 30” round 3-banded barrel, wood stocks, iron patchbox in butt stock, S/N 56538 with double set triggers. This rifle is in overall good + conditionwith a heavy dark patina to metal surfaces, crisp action, good markings, dark bore and good wood overall showing scattered old mars, dings and scratches from carry and storage; it is in a completely un-cleaned conditionand the way collectors love to find them. The set triggers are working at time of description. Per Flayderman’s Guide to Antique American Firearms, (5F-023.7), this rifle falls into the serial number range(54,374 to 57,567 (reference Marcot)) of New Model 1859 Sharps rifles issued to Col. Hiram Berdan’s 1st and 2nd Regiments of U.S. Sharpshooters during the Civil War (purchased/issued in 1862, approximately2,000 in numbers). (Antique). Est.: $3,000-$6,000.
