Important historic Colt Model 1877 DA revolver, .41 caliber, 4.5” barrel, nickel finish, pearl grips, S/N 105214, with partially visible remnants of an inscription on the backstrap; accompanied by a factoryletter from the Office of the Colt Historian confirming caliber, barrel length, finish AND pearl grips. Additionally and most significantly, the letter states that the gun was factory engraved “To Will Cravens FromHeck Thomas”; SHIPPED to Heck Thomas with shipping address “Unavailable” on December 1, 1896, 1 gun in shipment. Heck Thomas was one of the most effective lawmen in Western history. He apprehended dozens of notoriousoutlaws including members of the Doolin, Dalton and Sam Bass gangs. He was born in Athens, GA. on January 3, 1850. At the young age of 12, he served as a courier in the Civil War in Virginia for his uncle,Brigadier General Edward Thomas, who commanded the 49th Georgia Infantry. After the war, at the age of 17, Heck joined the Atlanta Police Dept. where he was known as a fearless officer after having been wounded in
