American made bolt-action centerfire Mauser style rifle chambered for .30-06 Springfield, and produced from 1951 to 1955. The J.C. Higgins Model 50 is a Sears Roebuck & Co. department store brand manufactured by FN in Belgium. Rifle features a blued finish, receiver drilled and tapped for optic mounting, an approximately 22" tapered barrel, raised dovetailed blade front sight, elevation adjustable rear sight (elevator removed), serrated curved trigger, bolt release on the left receiver rail, hinged floorplate with a release button at the rear, turned down and swept back flat bottomed bolt knob with checkering on flat, and a serrated low-swing manual safety on bolt shroud. The refinished walnut furniture consists of a smooth semi-pistol gripped shoulder stock, smooth forend with a sling swivel at the bottom, sling swivel at the bottom of the shoulder stock, grip cap with white spacers, and a serrated J.C. Higgins black plastic butt plate with a white spacer. The original blued finish retained is approximately 95% muzzle wear, a small material transfer on the barrel, thinning on the magazine floorplate and trigger guard, and some of the metal taking on a brown patina. The bolt handle shows some grinding marks, and there is light oxidative speckling. Action is smooth and crisp, and the bore is bright with strong rifling. The refinished furniture wood is in near good condition with handling marks, finish losses, material transfers, and drip marks from the finish application.
Condition is NRA Near Good.
