J. M. COOPER POCKET MODEL DOUBLE ACTION REVOLVER.
Cal. 31. S# 3810. Bbl. 4" octagon with brass bead front sight. Mfg. 1850's to 1869; first at Pittsburgh then from 1864-1869 in Philadelphia. Small framed revolver very similar to Colt Model 1862 but without rebated cyl. and with double action functioning. Second model from Philadelphia with two 1863 patent dates within S# 400-11000. Matching numbers on frame, bbl., trigger guard, backstrap and 5 rd. unfluted plain cyl.; wedge not numbered. Later variation with cyl. stop on left side of frame. Blued finish with brass triggerguard and backstrap that is made in 2 pieces with top portion pin attached to narrower part plus machined afterwards as evidenced by underside milling marks. Unnumbered 1 piece walnut grip. CONDITION: good overall with no finish remaining. Grey cleaned patina tone with prior peppery oxidation. Light impact marks throughout being most prevalent on bbl. assembly. Hand worn grip with minimal finish plus wear spot at center of bottom left. Proper mechanical functioning. Small void at top of backstrap where spliced. Poor to fair bore with distinct rifling and areas of pitting. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox. (01-22386/NW).
