J.P. Sauer K98k 'Mauser' 7.62 NATO
German WW2 military issued Infantry bolt action rifle. 24" barrel with inverted 'V" ramp front sight, and tangent rear sight graduated to 2000 meters. Manufactured circa 1940, it was later reconfigured for the Israeli Defense Forces to be re-barreled and chambered for 7.62 NATO. Some German proof marks remain on the right side of the receiver, another was destroyed. "Mod. 98" stamped on left receiver. Serial numbers don't match. Stock stamped with 7.62 on the bottom of the stock. Blued flat buttplate, no cleaning rod, smooth curved trigger, bolt disassembly disc in stock, semi-pistol grip stock, smooth handguard, smooth forend, bent bolt handle, five round internal box magazine, a sling loop and a sling slot in the stock. Bore appears bright with rifling present. Stock and handguard are good with minimal handling wear, and a small crack under the rear barrel band. Blued finish is about 80% with minor handling/edge wear. Barrel bands, floorplate, trigger guard and trigger show a brown patina. Action is crisp/tight. Sauer ceased production of K98's in late 1944 to concentrate on STG44 production.
