Consignor had done some research on the name Youmans (maybe pertinent to this item). According to the Lancaster County historical records, a Swiss gunmaker named Youmans immigrated to Lancaster PA in the mid-1700s and was one of the early developers of what became known as the Pennsylvania longrifle from the Swiss/German Jaeger rifle. In fact, he later provided a Pennsylvania longrifle to Andrew Jackson in 1788. I suspect the maker of this percussion barrel was likely either this man or a later relative.
