ORIGINAL CASE. Cal. 12 Ga., 2 3/4". S# 1533 (made 1897). Bbl. 26" monoblock, engraved "James MacNaughton Hanover St. Edinburgh" on Damascus game rib. Bbl. flats stamped w/ London black powder proofs & "12 Ga. 2 3/4". Nitro proofed "E.A. Lander Grafton, N.H." Rnd. bar trigger plate MacNaughton action (patent use #231) is fitted w/ short top lever (bbl. cocking). Also features crystal window to view tumblers, toggling top tang safety, 3rd fastener & double triggers. Action engraved w/ 80% coverage, sm. well cut scroll w/ "MACNAUGHTON EDINBURGH" on fences. S# is on long bottom action tang. Nicely mottled & lightly figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14 3/8" over brown Decelerator pad. Stock features point pattern checkering & vacant gold oval. Matching splinter ejector forend is marked w/ MacNaughton patent use #42 on iron (in reference to their unique ejector system) & forend detaches w/ forward pivoting lever release. MEASUREMENTS: BARRELS: Bore diameter: R 725 L 724. Restriction: R .012 (strong IC) L .017 (MOD). Min. Wall Thickness: R .028 L .025. STOCK: LOP: 14 3/8". DAC: 1 9/16". DAH: 2 1/4". Cast: Neutral. WEIGHT: 6 lbs. 16 oz. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: gun is housed in its original oak & leather case w/ brass corners. Interior is lined in brown pigskin as is normal for Scottish guns. Gold embossed green cardboard MacNaughton label is in lid. Case contains a Hawksley marked crystal oil bottle, 3 piece mahogany & brass cleaning rod, rosewood handled chamber brush, a Turk's head cleaning brush & some mops, as well as a pair of James Dixon powder & shot measures. CONDITION: very good as partially refurbished. Bbls. retaining over 80% rust blue as applied at time of sleeving. Action contains a considerable amount, perhaps 30 - 40% original light case hardened colors, mostly where well protected. Engraving remains very fine. Stocks retain most of an older oil refinish over some staining & marks w/ a good scattering of subsequent marks. Checkering is worn & has not been recut. Bores are excellent, action is tight, bbls. are slightly off face. Ejectors are in time, but often do not cock & are live. Case leather is considerably soiled, scuffed & marked. Handle & straps are renewed & good. Interior leather has darkened in bottom compartment & has numerous stains from contact w/ gun & access. Lid label is clear, somewhat soiled, but does not have any chips or scrapes. Partitions are good, bbl. length partition is loose. Most compartment covers are present, access. are good.
