JAPANESE ARMY KYU-GUNTO.
Kyu-gunto of this form were generally used from 1883 until 1945. They became popular during the Russo-Japanese War and remained in service until the close of WWII. Overall length: 37 1/4”. Blade length: 28 1/4”. Blade has an irregular wavy hamon with a full-length hi. The habaki is gilded copper with an etched grass-like design. The nakago is unsigned and there are 2 mekugi-ana. The tsuka is gilded brass with white same and a gold-plated wire wrap. There is a 10-petal cherry blossom on either side of the grip and a silver seal that appears to be 3 large leaves with smaller leaves below. There are 3 seppa between the tsuka and the habaki. Saya is chrome plated. CONDITION: blade has a fine polish and appears to be free of defects. Tsuka shows light overall wear. Saya shows light wear with minor loss of plating at the drag.
