JAPANESE LATE 1944 SHIN-GUNTO SWORD.
Overall length: 39 1/4”. Blade length: 27 1/8". Blade has a straight hamon with a gilded brass habaki. There is one seppa above & below the tsuba. Tsuba is plain iron with no embellishments. The nakago has a 6-character signature on one side and a 2-character signature on the other. The nakago has a mekugi-ana in the normal position and a second near the tip of the nakago. The tsuka has white same with dark brown tsuka-ito. There are no menuki present. The kabuto-gane and fuchi are both iron. The iron saya has a field green painted finish with darkened iron mounts. CONDITION: blade has scattered light staining throughout. The tsuka shows light to moderate wear with a break in the tsuka-ito and missing menuki. The saya retains over 95% of its original finish. The tip of the spring catch is broken. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox. (02-18410/BF). $300-500.
