JAPANESE TGE “BABY” NAMBU SEMI AUTO PISTOL WITH ORIGINAL HOLSTER.
Cal. 7mm Nambu. S# 6346. Bbl. 83mm. Approx. 6,500 (mfg. 1903-1929) 7mm Nambu type pistols referred to as “Baby” by collectors. First grouping mfg. 1903-1923 by Tokyo Koshikawa Arsenal w/in S# range 1-5899. Later production by Tokyo Gas Electric 1923-1929 numbered 5900-6450. Border checkered walnut grips matching numbered to pistol. Cocking piece & bolt matching numbered. Circled TGE symbol of manufacturer over chamber. Right rear of slide has 3 Japanese characters reading “Nambu Type”. MAGS: 1 very good matching numbered 7 rd. w/ aluminum base having checkered dimples; light marks on bottom of base, light scratches on plating of body & dark patina in checkering of dimples. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 4-7-06 notarized letter indicating illegally brought back from Pacific Theater by U.S. serviceman George Hardgrove; signed by David A. Hardgrove. Letter also indicates original purchaser from Hardgrove. Very good original sm. brown clam shell holster having single wide belt loop & double rings for shoulder strap. Spare mag. pouch horizontally on front under flap. Face of flap has stamped star. Underside of flap has stamped characters plus some inked. CONDITION: very good to excellent overall appearance w/ near excellent bore. Bolt face & chamber have an appearance of being unfired. Area of faint pitting at right rear of frame & receiver; similar appearance to left side but to lesser degree. Somewhat weak spring of grip safety along w/ slight dried lubricant. Slight stained appearance on right side of bolt when retracted & very faint hint of staining on top right of bolt at port. Very fine pinprick to peppery oxidation on balance of pistol; bbl. best appearing. Peppery oxidation in grip area including trigger guard; light pitting on backstrap. Plum hued straw colors on trigger w/ gray toned face. Even faded appearing light yellow extractor. Darkened appearance to face of mag. release. Light scratches to checkered latch on left side of frame. Near excellent grips. (20-1957/NW). CURIO. $4,000-6,000.
