Locks are engraved with feather borders, sprays of scroll and arrows in quivers. Maker's name over "Patent" is at centers. Trigger plate has usual pineapple finial, trigger guard with armorial designs on bow, has S# on tang. Stock of attractively marbled stump figured European walnut measures 14" over steel buttplate with long top tang engraved with arms. WEIGHT: 6 lb. 11 oz. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: gun is housed in an old Manton case with pendulum hook and key closure (key escutcheon is teardrop shaped and made of bone in usual Manton fashion). Top has circular "D" ring handle. Case is lined in green cloth and there is a small J. Manton label in lid of the type in use between 1815-1820. Case has platform for mounting of locks and contains an acanthus embossed copper bodied powder flask by Dixon, BGI powder measure, three piece brass and walnut cleaning rod and four etched Sykes type steel powder and shot containers marked "Patent". Design on exterior shows hunter in various poses on one side with birds, acanthus, etc. on other. Case also contains a key which does operate lock. CONDITION: very good as lightly refinished. Barrels retaining over 80% re brown with good definition to pattern, engraving softened. Locks and other iron parts show cleaning to bright toning back to silver and gray brown. Stock retains most of an old oil refinish over some deep marks and some subsequent marks. Bores are bright and shiny, locks and frizzens are fine. Case exterior retains most original finish, interior cloth is fine with some discoloration, rubs and soiling. Accessories are good, powder and shot containers very fine. This gun would most likely make a very fine shooter. (01-21928/MGM). ANTIQUE. $5,000-10,000.
