Cal. 30-06. S# B2342. Bbl. 21 3/4". Very nice example of scarce military rifle w/ original finish. Numbers mismatched at factory during mfg. Receiver marked on right rear star over "CRANSTON ARMS" in triangle indicating mfg. for Dutch contract. Receiver marked on top "JOHNSON AUTOMATIC MODEL OF 1941 CAL. 30-'06 SEMI AUTO". Bbl. is marked over chamber "JA .30-06". Marked underneath w/ Dutch proof mark. Adj. aperture rear sight graduated to 1,000m. Blade front sight w/ protective ears. Bbl. retains bayonet lug. Bolt catch is not present in receiver. According to Johnson Rifles And Machine guns by Canfield, "Maynard Johnson was not in favor of the bolt catch. It was installed on 1941 rifles presumably at the insistence of the Netherlands Purchasing Commission. It has been stated that some later production Johnson rifles may have had the bolt catch eliminated at the factory". 2 Piece walnut stock set. Checkered steel buttplate. Tan US M1907 sling marked "MILS CO 1943". CONDITION: stock set has original finish w/ light wear, scattered dents & scratches w/ notable dents & gouges on right side of forend & chipping around takedown lever. 75% Original war time parkerized finish w/ wear & scattered sm. dents & scratches. Good shiny bore w/ strong lands. Sling has scuffing & cracking. (19-5784/RW). CURIO. $5,000-7,000.
