Japanese Daisho Set of Tsubas. Nice set of tsubas for a daisho set of swords. Made of shakudo or copper, having a dark brown/black patina, with carved and chiseled details. The motif is dragons in waves and clouds on both tsubas front and back. These may be cast as there is a visible line through the middle of the hitsuanas, and age is unknown. The dragons and rim are plated or covered with gold colored metal, the rim being an integral part of the tsubas. There are kozuka and kogai hitsuanas on either side of the nakago anas. There are punch marks around the nakago anas, but these may be part of the casting, and not applied. The dai tsuba measures 75mm wide x 79mm tall. The sho tsuba measures 69mm wide x 74mm tall. Workmanship on the chiseled details of the dragons is pretty good. They come with a double wooden storage box and cloth bags. Condition is very good, the gold colored metal is bright with just a little wear on the high edges and the rims. The dark patina on the tsuba bodies show some mottling in the seppa dai area which could be from being mounted on swords at some point, otherwise the bodies of the tsubas are in very good condition. The wood storage box is old, with some wear to satin liners, and soiling on the cloth bags. Est.: $400-$600.
