Original Early WWII Japanese Navy Officer's Kaigunto Sword, with Signed Blade, in rayskin covered scabbard. The shinogi-zukuri shaped blade measures 25-3/8'' in length and is a deluxe machine made type, with a gunome (wavy) oil tempered hamon. Blade is covered in old grease, but should clean up quite nicely with some TLC. Tang is signed ''Noshu..Kanemichi saku'' and has a Seki arsenal stamp. Handle is covered in rayskin and wrapped with brown silk cord. The original brown officer's sword knot is present. Tsuba is flat, blackened copper, with the early copper and gold rayed seppas that resemble the rising sun flag. Scabbard is covered in polished rayskin with two hanging ring fittings. Condition is good overall. The rayskin on the scabbard shows age, shrinkage, and splitting, and the bottom drag fitting is missing. Fittings on the scabbard and handle show age darkening and losses to the original gold gilt finish. There is a push-button retaining catch with a cherry blossom decoration. Overall a nice example. Est.: $600-$1,200.
