Measures approximately 55' X 35'. Cloth with double stitching around the edges. The iconic 16-ray Rising Sun flag. Reinforced white border with two brass grommets on the side. The border is vertically signed with many Japanese Kanji characters. Consigner states these are ports of call for the vessel concerned. A 55"x35" (roughly 4.5 x 3 feet) Japanese naval ensign is a Size 3 or Size 4 ensign. In historical Japanese naval specifications, this size was commonly flown at the stern jack staff or gaff of smaller warships, such as destroyers, torpedo boats, and sub-chasers, or used as an everyday flag on medium-sized vessels. Flag is intact with no rips or tears, all stitching intact, has some water staining. Displayed in a large frame that measures approximately 63'x43'. This would be very expensive to ship. We would suggest to out-of-state bidders to have it shipped without the frame. Worthy of further research.
