James Donn & Bros., Canton, Illinois, (1859-1886) High quality Side-by-Side exposed hammer Shotgun, 10 ga., 34'' Damascus barrels with 1/2'' concave rib, maker marked, front silver bead, open chokes and extractor; case colored receiver has double triggers and fancy scroll engraving; locks engraved with pointer, and pheasant "Jas. Donnn & Bro Canton,Ills.", serpentine hammers with tall spurs in the style of Purdey. Checkered walnut stock and forend, Prince of Wales grips and horn buttplate. break action is an under lever incorporated into the triggerguard. Both barrels are proofed under the forearm with crossed pistols under a crown (?)., he was known to import barrels. James Donn, who was born in Lake County, Illinois, in 1839, started his lifelong gun making career.. Mechanically the shotgun is excellent, wood is near excellent with sharp checkering, a few minor scratches/dings, engravings and markings are crisp/clear, barrels finish has turned a molted gray/brown patina, bores are good with scattered light pitting. Consignor purchased this gun from Gold & Silver Pawn shop in Las Vegas in 2016 for $2,811.90, paperwork included along with photos of the cast of the show "Pawn Stars". A rare shotgun.
