No. 60 MILITARY CARBINE. Cal. 44 RF. S# 60. Bbl. 24" matching numbered ("C0" rather than "60") oct. having dovetailed front blade sight plus screw attached 3 position military rear. Mfg. 1859 to about 1863 or 1864 as first type having rounded iron frame w/ integral forend; total production 1859-1888 of all models was about 35,000 units; 4,500 Military models. Earliest Military model having square cut side plate rather than round of later models. Of those sold to Kitteredge (multi company agents), 760 sold to Indiana & 1,366 to Kentucky plus many to Kansas & Missouri; all for state militia units. Kitteredge markings on top of bbl. to right of Wesson markings; no state markings. Rear of bbl. has curved edges to allow finger removal of cartridges; made w/ out extractor. Right side of frame has link to limit bbl. opening. Decorative cast trigger guard & corresponding crescent shaped carbine buttplate; comb is distinctively flat (common to Military models) plus rounded toe line (flat on Sporter models). Matching numbers on frame, bbl., bbl. latch & trigger guard. All blued finish plus sling swivel at rear of bottom tang. Most made in 44 cal. as were all Military models; all rimfire. Empty dovetail at bottom front of bbl. likely for front swivel set. CONDITION: fair to good overall having patina throughout. Stock w/ aged original finish having chip at top right front plus factory knot repair behind bottom tang. Multiple damaged screw slots. Poor to fair worn & pitted bore w/ dark appearance; distinct rifling. (01-23022/NW). ANTIQUE. $1,000-1,750.
