L. G. & Y. U.S. Model 1861 Percussion Special Musket, #NVSN, .58 cal., 32" barrel, finished "in the white", walnut stock, standard blade front sight, and "V"-notch two-leaf rear sight. The musket was manufactured by Lamson, Goodnow, & Yale Company, located in Winsor, Vermont. A shortened and crazed M1907 sling is attached. Barrel and ramrod were reduced four inches and the musket was sold commercially after the Civil War. Lockplate is marked "(Eagle) L. G. & Y./U.S. WINDSON-VT." with "1862" behind the hammer. Barrel is marked "1862" with "V P (Eagle)". The eagle on the bolster is faint and both barrel band screws are burred. Metal was cleaned to white and shows some even light rust spots throughout. Shortened stock has a boxed cartouche on the left and an "N" is scratched behind the rear band on the left. Stock is in good condition, with scattered handling marks, heavier on the flat. Action works properly. Bore is very good, with sharp rifling, and one minor rough spot. Est.: $800-$1,400. (Antique)
