L. G. & Y. U.S. Model 1861 Percussion Special Musket, #NVSN, .58 cal., 40" barrel, finished "in the white", walnut stock, standard blade front sight, and "U"-notch two-leaf rear sight. The musket was manufactured by the Lamson, Goodnow, & Yale Company, located in Winsor, Vermont. Lockplate is marked "(Eagle) L .G. & Y./U.S. WINDSOR-VT." with "1863" behind the hammer. Barrel is marked "V P (Eagle), with "1863" on top, and "22" in front of the date; the eagle on the bolster is light. Ramrod is full length and threaded. The "white" metal finish is good, with scattered spots of patina, and light pitting at the nipple area. Stock has a boxed cartouche on the left and is very good, with light handling marks, heavier on the butt. Bands are marked "U" and the buttplate is marked "U.S./A/36." Action works properly. Bore and rifling are very good, with some light frosting. This is a nice, original Civil War musket. Est.: $1,200-$2,000. (Antique)
