LARGE FLINTLOCK JAEGER TYPE RIFLE.

Cal. 67 groove diameter. NSN. Bbl. 39 1/4" nicely swamped oct. w/ 7 groove deep rifling. Has indecipherable engraved initials at breech end & is fitted w/ single standing V notch rear sight & brass front dovetailed through. Early style lock w/ deeply chamfered & arched plate has rebated tail & features matching serpentine cock, inset faceted pan, unbridled frizzen & feather spring w/ leaf & ball finial. Triggers are set & lg. trigger guard of iron has 3 finger grooves & spur. Stock of well figured European walnut has raised fields around lock, bbl. tang & intricately filed sideplate. This treatment extends to comb which transitions to long right hand cheekpiece. Matching wood patch box is on right side of butt. Stock extends to muzzle w/ horn cap & is pinned to bbl. Plain wood ramrod is by 2 beaded pipes & matching thimble. This lg. Germanic rifle weighs over 15 1/2 lbs. CONDITION: fair to good w/ wood restoration. Bbl. retaining most of an old rebrown over good scattering of fairly deep pitting & has had touch hole bushed. Lock in original flint configuration has old cleaning to silver gray. Stock has evidence of old refinishing w/ edges somewhat rounded. New wood has been let in on both sides of bbl. channel & along bottom w/ ramrod pipes, etc. refitted. Bore is very fine.
