BUTTONS. Most of the excavated buttons in this group were found at a house site on Adairsville Rd., north of Cassville, Georgia. The site was occupied by Confederate troops & later by Union forces. Excavated Confederate buttons include 6 cast "I" buttons. / 2 Tin back block "I" buttons w/ shank. / 2 Block "I" buttons, no backs. / 1 EM Lewis block "I" buttons, no shanks. / 1 Script "I" w/ a push. / 1 Smith South Carolina button w/ push & no shank. / 1 EQ South Carolina vest. / 2 Local tin back block "A" buttons, no shanks. / 1 Blank channel back Georgia button. / 1 Tin back Georgia cuff button. / 1 North Carolina Starburst button, no shank. / 1 North Carolina SA Myers button w/ sm. hole in the side. Non-excavated Confederate buttons include 2 Horstmann vest South Carolina buttons & 1 Robinson VMI button. Excavated Yankee buttons include 7 eagle "I" buttons, both coat & cuff. / 2 Enlisted eagle buttons. / 2 Eagle "D" buttons, both coat & cuff. / 2 Cuff "R" buttons. / 1 Infantry script "I" cuff button of the 1812 period. Non-excavated Yankee buttons include 1 eagle "D" coat button. / 1 Eagle "I" cuff button. / 1 Eagle "A" coat. CONDITION: dug buttons obviously have excavated patinas & are generally solid except as noted. Non-excavated buttons are in good condition, complete w/ shanks. (02-17541/BF). $1,000-1,500.
