LARGE GROUPING OF US MILITARY BOLO KNIVES, USMC
MEDICAL CORPSMEN KNIFE AND US MACHETE. 1) 11 1/2" blade. U.S.M.C. Medical Corpsmen knife. Bright blade marked on left side "USMC CHATILLON, N.Y.". Maple grips fastened w/ 3 flush rivets. These knives had a very heavy blade & measured approx. 16 1/2" overall. Brown leather scabbard w/ brass reinforced throat & equipped with Model 1910 belt hook. Scabbard is marked on back "USMC BOYT 44". CONDITION: blade is turning gray w/ scattered spots of oxidation. Grips have light wear & spots of splattered paint most notable on left grip. Leather scabbard has staining & scuffing but stitching is tight. 2) 18" blade machete measuring 23 1/8" overall. Blade is marked on left ricasso "DISSTON US 1945". Green plastic contoured grip fastened w/ 3 flush copper rivets. Lanyard hole at rear of grip & on finger guard. Green canvas scabbard is unmarked. Scabbard has brass reinforced throat. Reinforced canvas tip. Model 1910 belt hook. Blade has been sharpened & has oxidation, fine pitting & staining throughout. Grips have moderate wear & handling marks. Scabbard has scuffing & staining plus several sm. tears. 3) U.S. Model 1910 Bolo. 10 3/8" blade. 15" overall. Blade marked on left Ricasso "SA" flaming bomb "1912". Marked on right ricasso "US" & S#. Straight cross guard. Handle is equipped w/ thumb type scabbard release. Walnut grips retained by 2 screws. Birds head pommel. Canvas covered scabbard w/ leather tip. Tip is marked "T.C.C." "R.I.A.". Model1910 belt hook. CONDITION: bright blade has been sharpened & has spots of oxidation, staining & fine pitting throughout. Balance of metal has wear turning patina. Grips have light wear & staining. Scabbard has light wear & staining. Stitching is tight. 4) Model 1910 Bolo. 10 1/4" blade, 15" overall. Bright blade is marked on left ricasso "SA" flaming bomb "1912". Straight cross guard made w/out thumb catch. Coarse turned walnut grips fastened by screws. Birds head pommel. Khaki canvas covered scabbard w/ metal fruit & leather tip. Tip is marked "BRAUER BROS. 1918". Faint ink marking appears "JMM" on canvas cover. Model 1910 belt hook. CONDITION: blade turning overall gray w/ very light oxidation and staining. Balance of metal is blue turning patina w/ light wear. Grips have moderate wear & staining. Scabbard in very good overall condition w/ light wear & staining. 10" blade Model 1917. 5) 10" Blade. Model 1917 Bolo. 14 1/2" overall. Parkerized blade is marked on right ricasso "US MOD" / "1917 O.T.". Left ricasso is marked "PLUM ST LOU". Straight cross guard. Coarse turned walnut grips retained by 2 screws. Birds head pommel. Grips have "FRR" (soldier's initals). Green canvas covered scabbard w/ metal throat & M1910 belt hook. Leather tip is marked "BRAUER BROS 1918". CONDITION: blade has moderate wear & scratches plus has been sharpened. Balance of metal turning gray & patina. Grips have moderate wear & staining w/ full length repaired crack & white grip. Scabbard has wear & staining w/ tight stitching. 6) 9 7/8" parkerized blade. Model 1917 Bolo. 14 5/8" overall. Blade is marked on right ricasso " U.S. MOD 1917 CT". Left ricasso is marked "A.C. CO. CHICAGO 1918". Straight cross guard. Coarse turned walnut grips retained by 2 screws. Birds head pommel. Khaki colored canvas covered scabbard w/ metal throat. Model 1910 belt hook. Leather tip is faintly marked "BRAUER BROS 1918". CONDITION: sharpened blade has been cleaned removing much of the parkerized finish. Balance of metal has turned patina w/ moderate wear. Grips have moderate wear & staining. Scabbard has wear, staining and scuffing. 7) 10 1/4" parkerized blade. Model 1917 Bolo. Blade is marked faintly on right ricasso "US MOD 1917". Marked on left ricasso "PLUMB PHILA 1918". Straight cross guard. Replacement coarse turned walnut grips retained by 2 screws. Type 2 stamped metal scabbard painted olive drab w/ Model 1910 belt hook. Marked on back "U.S. L.F.&C.-1918". CONDITION: blade & metal parts have arsenal rework dark parkerizing. Grips are unfinished bare wood. Scabbard has most of its original paint except around throat area which has flaking & oxidation. PROVANANCE: from the Estate Collection of Thomas J. Mulligan. (02-19734-17/RW). $500-700.
