LATE 19TH CENTURY BRITISH 18TH ROYAL HUSSARS TUNIC

& BUSBY. The 18th Hussars have a lineage going back to their formation in 1759. Through amalgamation they became the Light Dragoons in 1992. The Regimental Colonels in Chief included Queen Mary & Diana, Princess of Wales. The Regimental Colonels include Sir Robert Baden Powell, instrumental in founding the Boy Scouts. The black tunic is adorned w/ gold colored heavy braid and has a standing collar edged in braid. Tunic is mounted on a manikin w/ a circular wooden base. Included is the Busby which is marked inside "JONES CHALK & DAWSON TAYLORS MILITARY OUTFITTERS 6, SACKVILLE ST. LONDON. W." The Busby is covered w/ brown sable fur & a gold colored braided band. It has a blue bag w/ gold colored edging. The feathered plume is correct white over crimson. The back of the boss has a spring socket to hold the stem of the plume. The chin strap consists of brass rings w/ leather liner. CONDITION: the jacket is in good condition w/ very light wear & staining. The right sleeve has added stitching at the rear. There are several scattered spots of insect damage & gold color braid is turning dark w/ a pleasing aged appearance. The Busby has fading prominent on the front & top from a black to a brown sable fur but no significant loss of fur. Leather parts have light wear notably on the lower edge of the headband. Chinstrap liner is detached. Crimson plume feathers have a faded appearance & the white feathers have very lightly aged look. (02-18160/RW). $900-1,200.
