GRADE BOXLOCK EJECTOR GAME GUN WITH CASE. Cal. 16 Ga. S# 8429. Bbls. 25”. When this gun was made The Regal was the medium quality boxlock gun retailing for 320 pounds. This gun is fitted w/ 25” dovetailed bbls. having narrow Churchill rib gold inlaid “XXV” at breech end. Tops of bbls. are engraved w/ Churchill name & 7, Bury Street address. Bbl. flats are stamped w/ Birmingham nitro proofs for 16 Ga., 2 3/4” chambers. Bottoms of bbls. are engraved w/ S# & importers name & address (Woodcock Hill) are on splinter. Case hardened dbl. Ogee backed boxlock action features automatic safety (“SAFE” inlaid in gold) & dbl. triggers. Action is engraved w/ 80% coverage, well-cut shaded scroll w/ rose bouquet highlights on sides. “CHURCHILL” is in scroll terminated ribbon on each side. Blued top level floorplate & triggerguard are engraved w/ matching scroll. “The Regal” is engraved on triggerplate & S# is on triggerguard tang. Attractively fiddle figured & well streaked European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14 1/8”over checkered wood butt& also features drop points, point pattern checkering & gold oval on toeline engraved “RDS”. Matching splinter ejector forend is Anson release. MEASUREMENTS: BORE DIAMETER: left .662, right .662. BORE RESTRICTIONS: left .018 Mod, right .008 IC. WALL THICKNESS: left 0.26, right .030. DAC: 1 1/2”. DAH: 2 1/4”. Cast: approx. 5/8” off. WEIGHT: 6 lbs. 11 oz. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: brown leather “VC” case w/ stitched leather corners, is lined in burgundy cloth & has gold embossed black leather Churchill label in lid. Case contains 2 piece cleaning rod. Case is very good w/ a number of rubs on exterior; a name plate has been removed from top. Handle is good. Interior cloth is good w/ some soiling & rubs. Factory letter & copy of ledger page. CONDITION: very fine as completely reconditioned likely in England. Bbls. retaining nearly all of a best British reblack w/ one or two minor handling marks. Action retains approx. 80% what appears to be original case hardening color silvered on fences & around bottom. Blued components retain essentially all of their renewed finish w/ the slightest hint of silvering on thumb piece & safety. Stocks retain nearly all of a best hand rubbed oil finish w/ some scattered subsequent marks. Checkering is competently recut. Bores are bright & shiny. Action is tight.
