LATE FEDERAL ERA EAGLE HEAD SABER.
Overall length: 34 7/8”. Blade length: 27 1/2". Blade has a single medium fuller and is etched over 1/3 of its length with various military, foliate & patriotic motifs on a blued field. A classic gilded brass 5 ball style hilt with a downturned quillon. There are 5 balls on the guard branch and 5 balls on the knuckle bow. There is a knot/lanyard ring in the knuckle bow near the pommel. Well articulated eagle head pommel and reeded bone grip. Gilded brass mounted leather scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray patina with heavier oxidation near the tip. Only traces of gold highlights & bluing remain. Hilt retains 65% of its original gilding. Grip has a single tight age crack running from pommel to ferrule. Scabbard mounts retain most of their original gilding. Leather body is a bit floppy but unbroken. Blade is quite tight in the scabbard due to shrinkage. (02-19222/BF). $600-800.
